Bertram, an authorized Hopi Guide and member of the Corn Clan, has provided tours for people from all over the world including researchers and anthropologists from museums and universities.
Oraibi Village Tour – The old village of Oraibi is one of the longest continuously inhabited sites in North America, dating back to circa 950 AD. Bertram’s family home is one of the 16 original stone houses in the village on the plaza, center of the community and location of traditional ceremonies and dances. Bertram shares personal stories that are part of the oral tradition of the Hopi and introduces artists who welcome visitors into their home workshops. This is a one hour tour of the village.

Old Oraibi & Dawa Park – This three hour tour combines Bertram’s personal tour of Old Oraibi and the spectacular Dawa Park, one of the most culturally significant sites in the American southwest. Dawa Park is tucked into a 200 foot tall red rock ridge line that reveals between 12,000 and 15,000 petroglyphs that date back to the Anasazai ancestors of the current day Hopi. There are petroglyphs on the walls of Dawa Park that are not found in any other location.

Full Day Tour – The six hour full day tour with Bertram includes Old Oraibi, Dawa Park, lunch and a walking tour of Walpi. Walpi is situated on top of First Mesa nearly 300 feet above the surrounding land. The village is a living village where the homes are passed down through matrilineal clan lineage. Just as it has been over the centuries, there is no electricity or running water in the old village of Walpi. You will witness life at it has been lived over the centuries. This full day tour gives visitors the opportunity to meet Kachina doll carvers, basket weavers and potters in their villages. You will learn about Hopi agriculture and see the dry farming that produces crops of beans, squash and corn that have been the staples of Hopi life for centuries.
